The annual Mangawhai Walking Weekend will be held this coming weekend, the 27th to the 29th of March 2015. This event showcases the Mangawhai area and brings up to 400 walkers to our seaside town to enjoy the wide variety of walks offered. The weekend starts with the relaxing and leisurely Trabadour walk on the Friday. This is a slow walk around parts of the harbour with stops along the way to listen to a variety of musicians and Artists who present a variety of music and artistic endeavours – always offering some unexpected delight. The walks on the Saturday and the Sunday are more formal in their format and pre-booking is essential.
For those who prefer a more leisurely weekend the Mangawhai Artist Groups run their annual arts trail in conjunction with the Walking Weekend . The Arts Trial offers all sorts of surprises in the various venues – maps can be obtained at the Information Centre in Molesworth Drive.
On Saturday the 28th there is the very popular Mangawhai Wine and Food Festival held in the Olive Grove opposite the school in Insley Ave which starts at 3 pm and goes through to just after 7pm. This is a good chance to catch up with old friends and make new ones as well as an opportunity meet many of the Mangawhai Locals. This year the very popular Mermaids Dance Band will be playing again. This is a licensed event so children are unable to attend. Its also a very good opportunity to taste the many quality food outlets and producers in the area and of course the local vineyard operators also have their quality wines available for your enjoyment.
